Stable, but not "too" stable (I'm looking at you RHEL). Been daily driving Debian 10 and 11 for years now, no complaints. Even on newish laptops, fine.
Ubuntu is one of the most "normal" and Linuxy Linuxes and is probably the easiest to use due to market share. BUT drama with:
- snaps
- gnome 40
- wayland (and before that the mir/unity mess)
- spying search, etc.
I don't want drama. I want about 50,000 "dpkg" packages that all use the same libstdc++ and have been compiled within the last couple years. Not "snaps" or "flatpacks" or VMs or dockers or etc. Anything fancier than that, I'll just build myself. Turns out that old Debian is not as crusty as one would think; there's very little advantage to the bleeding edge of anything more edgy these days.
I'm sad about systemd. And happy about firmware. And Shuttleworth can kiss my ass.
