China's surveillance state will be the West's future, too
- sylware 4y agoWell, those systems should be used for "good" reasons... the hard part is to keep the "good" reasons actually good... not to mention who is going to be sure those systems will be used for this specific "good"? "good" fanatics? For instance, internet mass surveillance systems, to bust killers, pedophiles, human trafikers, yeah sure, but for the movie and music industries, ppl discussing "annoying" opinions, well, certainly not. This is usually what happens: they setup surveillance systems justified for such extreme cases, but in the end they are mostly used by the movie and music industries or to get an advantage over their political oponnents. In my country, I was working in a strategic department of a big ISP, then the government decided to start deploying an automated mass surveillance system, ONLY for the music and movie industries (I know, hardly believable)... that department would be forced by law to develop an interface with that system... and I was part of user groups against that... weirdly enough, I was fired for some non-sense reason before I could give them the finger...
- Arnt 4y agoThere seems to be a gap in the argument. Along the lines of "we all grow old, that's indisputable, so it follows we're all going to look as bad as Berlusconi". https://archive.ph/W80Y2 https://archive.ph/W80Y2 BTW
