Cloudflare Workers + Durable Objects. I used to like mucking around with Linux and distributed databases, but then Cloudflare came and destroyed all my motivation, since their platform is better than what I could come up in a decade. So just send me the bill and let me build brilliant, beautiful software effortlessly you bastards. Working harder than you should is a waste of time and money, you have to learn to sit pretty on the gravy train.

- necovek 4y agoWhat's the local development story with CF workers and durable objects? I mostly care about the ability to test locally (both automated and manual tests), and how composable everything is (fast tests too)?
- Comevius 4y agohttps://github.com/cloudflare/miniflare https://github.com/cloudflare/miniflare It's a simulator, works like a charm. The next version is going to be based on workerd, the actual Cloudflare runtime which they recently open-sourced.
- necovek 4y agoIs there a higher level approach for pure(r) unit tests in other languages? I am mostly interested in Python, but also as a general approach. I guess one would want support in the framework for that level of testability, but hey, one can dream.
- Comevius 4y agoThere is excellent support for Jest, I'm guessing with Python and the rest of the languages that are translated to JavaScript you would be able use it too, but it's easier to go with TypeScript, you don't really want suprises in Workers as you are billed for them. Using Rust makes sense for WASM, but Python is not worth it if you ask me. On the client you can do whatever of course.
