Fallout Shelters Near Me: Nuclear and Bomb Shelter Locations (Under Ground)
- LinuxBender 4y agoThis is a good write-up. One nitpick however, I would not go to an abandoned mine as refuge from a nuclear bomb. If the bomb is too close to the mine, the old support timbers of unknown age may crumble and the mine may collapse. Blasts from a nuke are a different frequency than explosive charges and the timbers if not kept bone dry will buckle. Even if one is not crushed by the collapse, nobody will know that mine has people in it and extracting survivors may not be feasible. Right now, in the best of times it would take hours to round up make-shift mining equipment. After a nuke drops, getting hydraulic muckers, drilling/rounding rigs, supports, jack-leg drills, anchors, hydraulic pumps and an experienced mining team would not happen. There could be tens of tons of muck to remove. All the local mining folks including my neighbors do strip-mining these days, meaning the equipment at the local mine is entirely useless. The local SAR team would make a best-effort but I would not expect them to extract survivors. They also need to crawl this page for 404's. The Wyoming gov link is broken.
