It won't just be very unpleasant, but it will have serious ramifications on the world's food supply if growing seasons are dramatically shortened and viable ranges for crops shift south by a large amount.
- osigurdson 4y agoCould that food supply shift to Canada, Russia and possibly Greenland? Obviously, we don't want it and should avoid it.
- mikestew 4y agoIf we’re relying on the British Columbia topsoil to grow our food, we’re screwed. There’s more to agriculture than climate.
- eloff 4y agoOr Canadian shield topsoil. The last ice age scraped Eastern Canada down to bedrock and deposited all the soil in the US.
- eloff 4y agoThe parts of Russia where they grow most of the food is in Europe and would also be affected by the Gulf Stream weakening or halting. Likewise so would Greenland, which will not be good for agriculture anyway, even with serious warming.
- osigurdson 4y agoI found the following regarding Greenland. https://polarjournal.ch/en/2021/03/05/agriculture-in-greenland/ https://polarjournal.ch/en/2021/03/05/agriculture-in-greenla...
- bergenty 4y agoCanada is just gravel. It would take millions of years to generate new top soil so probably not.
