Is "sow" really a word for pig? Or did they just want something that sounds like the German "Sau"?
Also, when print-scan-copy-all-in-one devices were a new thing, I liked to call them Eierlegende Wollmilchsau. Any other devices that come to mind?
- WesolyKubeczek 4y agoIt’s quite a cromulent word for a female pig.
- lqet 4y agoA sow is a female pig. It has exactly the same meaning as "Sau" in German, and even sounds the same. "Pig" is "Schwein" in German. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pig https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pig
- netsharc 4y agoAnd Schwein is probably where the word swine comes from.
- kuramitropolis 4y agoIs "pork"? There's a layer of English that has decidedly Germanic origins; see also "legal doublets".
