- Thorrez 4y agoDoesn't water vapor come down as rain whereas CO2 stays up in the atmosphere?
- TEP_Kim_Il_Sung 4y agoVapor stays in the air until it condenses and falls as liquid rain. CO2 is denser than air, and though it billows with the wind, it tends to stay low; That's why spelunking is so dangerous.
- Thorrez 4y agoOk, so my point is that water vapor is only there temporarily but CO2 is there permanently (unless a plant turns it into oxygen or some carbon capture program grabs it). Since water vapor is only there temporarily, I don't think it'll have nearly as big of a global warming effect.
- TEP_Kim_Il_Sung 4y agoIndividual molecules ov vapor may be there temporarily, but atmospheric water vapor is constantly replenished .
- Thorrez 4y agoMy point is that driving an engine that emits just water vapor for 1 day won't have a permanent effect on the atmosphere, because the water vapor it emits will eventually rain down, and the level of water vapor in the atmosphere will go back to what it was before driving the water-vapor-emitting engine. On the other hand, driving an engine that emits just CO2 for 1 day will have a permanent effect on the atmosphere because the CO2 will stay there.
- TEP_Kim_Il_Sung 4y agoWhat do trees eat? Where does the majority of the material making up the tree (roots, trunk, branches, leaves, and all) come from?
- Thorrez 4y agoCarbon dioxide I think. But I think it's a fairly balanced process of trees eating CO2 and trees dying and releasing CO2 back. I don't think this action changes the amount of CO2 much since it evens out. Humans in the last 200 years have massively increased the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere by finding carbon buried deep underground and releasing it as CO2 into the air. https://www.co2levels.org/ https://www.co2levels.org/
- TEP_Kim_Il_Sung 4y agoHow much underground CO2 is released in a single volcanic eruption, such as Mt. Eyjafjallajökull, Mt. St. Helens, or yearly at Mt. Vesuvius?
- Schroedingersat 4y agoWater vapor is in equilibrium (and deisel combustion produces plenty of H2O as well). Try a better concern trolling line.
- TEP_Kim_Il_Sung 4y agoLol, just look at comparative Infra-Red absorption. Equilibrium has little to do with the effect.
- Schroedingersat 4y agoIt means that emissions are not cumulative. Without some other form of radiative forcing, any H2O you put into the lower atmosphere falls back out again or displaces H2O that would evaporate elsewhere. Otherwise the average lawn would be thousands of times worse than all other activity by the whoever lives there combined. Try a better concern trolling line.
- TEP_Kim_Il_Sung 4y agoYou will find warming mostly happens over richly foliaged parts of the planet, and a relationship between plant water retention and atmospheric CO2 concentration. (Leaf stomata shrink or expand depending on carbon starvation; Larger stomata increase plant inspiration, and water transpiration.) This is more pronounced on bigger leaves, so it's not lawns you should be looking at, but the natural carbon sequestering agents known as trees.
