We used to teach Latin in schools. We barely teach history anymore. The more we pare away, the more ignorant our general population. This defense of lowering expectations across the board is misguided and destructive.
- bonniemuffin 4y agoI took 3 years of Latin and it was among the most useless things I've ever wasted brain cells on. I wish instead I had taken a language people actually speak (spanish, french, mandarin, anything really), to learn about other cultures and make it easier to travel the world. I'm very enthusiastic about teaching all kinds of things that are getting cut from curricula (history, algebra, civics, wood shop, home ec, music, art, etc) -- but Latin in particular is peak useless.
