Cold Fusion is Back (there's just one problem) [ Sabine Hossenfelder ]
- retrocryptid 4y agoI thought for sure this was going to be a link about 90s era application servers.
- fargle 4y agoyou should always name your gimmicky tech-fad products after monumental fake science discoveries. symmetry.
- mikewarot 4y agoI've stuck with this thread since the beginning... the suppression by the hot fusion community, scammers spamming the headlines, and the difficulty in replicating results were all discouraging, but I'm glad to see it's finally starting to get some serious investigation. I think it's safe to conclude that there are many areas of science that have fallen into similar reputation traps.
- wrycoder 4y agoI attended a small international LENR conference at MIT a couple of years ago. Mostly older researchers, of course. They sounded very serious to me.
- xt00 4y agoSeems like the research should be focused on behavior of neutron heavy isotopes in metallic lattices rather than trying to see how much fusion gain is happening or not happening. Like why is there the 100X amount of neutrons coming out compared to expected.. super interesting problem.. is the 100X the same for all metals? What about different metals? Doping of metals changes the shape and spacing of the lattice.. could they dope the metal with something to change the lattice spacing then shoot deuterium in after that? Tons of possibilities in the research..
