Rivian recalling nearly all of its vehicles
- xmcqdpt2 4y agoThat’s going to be frustrating for the twelve owners of Rivian vehicles!
- pedalpete 4y ago15,000 in the past 3 quarters. I saw quite a few of them in California. Nowhere near Tesla numbers, but quite good for the age of the company. Doing significantly better than Lucid, Lordstown, etc from what I can tell.
- dag11 4y agoI pass one on my commute on probably half of all days. I wave to them from my own R1T. There's dozens of us!
- simfree 4y agoBeen seeing Rivians constantly in Seattle, less so in Bellevue and outlying areas. Yet to see one in Portland though, but there is a lot less money sloshing around here in the Willamette Valley compared to what gets spent around Lake Washington...
- xmcqdpt2 4y agoWild! I just assumed that they weren't really selling yet, but turns out they just don't sell vehicles... in Canada. Well, I learned something today.
- Rebelgecko 4y agoI see them pretty often around where I live, but due to the location I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them belong to Rivian employees
- hacym 4y agoMight be where you live. It’s marketed as an off roader, and I’ve seen a few of them in more woodsy areas. I think they’d be a hard sell as a city vehicle.
- nyxtom 4y agoRivian needs to fix their truck bed cover system, it's slow and breaks far too easily.
- iancmceachern 4y agoThe Bakflip I have on my F-250 works great
- jacurtis 4y agoI’ve had a bakflip for years. Exactly ZERO problems. One of the best tonneaus ever made. I still get truck owners asking me where they can get one.

- reducesuffering 4y agoThat's in addition to major recalls on all Lucids and GM Bolts. As much as we need to majorly reduce emissions and hit a 99% EV future, I think it's fair to say that consumers are Beta-testers for EV's that aren't Teslas right now. A hard pill to swallow when you know a Toyota RAV4 is going to hit 200k+ miles no problem.
- thevagrant 4y agoFeel the same. I wanted to buy an EV but my habit has been to buy a 10 year old car and drive it until it is 20 years old. EVs don't appear to fit well in that use case until batteries can be replaced affordably. Even then, the new models have huge screens and electronics integrated throughout, chances are slim those parts will be easily repaired 10+ years down the line.
- simfree 4y agoThere are many Fiat 500e and Nissan Leafs on the road that are cheap and closing in on a decade old. The Fiats generally are above 90% battery health at 80k miles since they only support level 2 charging or slower, so you don't need battery replacement. Nissan Leafs have many options for battery replacement, but the 2011 era ones had a bad battery chemistry so you should probably avoid buying one with the original battery. There are also some electric Smart cars out there that are fun to drive!
- uxp100 4y agoUnfortunately used 500es have gone from around 7k to around 14k, which is a much less compelling price for a deeply flawed vehicle. Otoh, if you like that size, I tend to feel there will never be small EVs that are still full speed cars again, so…
- simfree 4y agoThe flaws of the 500e are pretty manageable if you accept that it's just an around town car, but this means you probably want it as an addition to your fleet of cars, or want to have the option to borrow or cheaply rent a long distance vehicle when needed. The current runup in used prices for the 500e is crazy though, there is no way a 500e should be as valuable as a Ford Fusion Energi Titanium. The longer range of the 500e and lower maintenance needed might partially justify this.
