Moving my belongings to an off-site location is _precisely_ the sort of thing I'd want to be notified of, and if the airline doesn't feel that I deserve to know that, ahh, well. That would be problematic. I appreciate that you're trying to find alternate explanations, and it's my first impulse to do the same, but I've been racking my brain and I just can't come up with any. This one isn't better, it's worse.
