Thank you. I had not really thought about how much notifications hurt my computer enjoyment / productivity. I'm reconsidering my home computing strategy in light of this. I have one machine I'm most productive on. Reading your article made me realize it's the only one I have configured without notifications. At work, I cannot turn off the apps that pollute my day with notifications. The firm got rid of their phone system - there is only <popular corporate messaging app>. Previously, I could turn it off and tell people to call me if there's something important. I suspect others are stuck in this position as well.
