A good example of calculable performance vs perceived performance. There's more sudoku puzzles in existence than anyone can memorize, therefore there's infinite sudoku puzzles from a human perspective.
From a computer's perspective there is only one sudoku puzzle. Writing a sudoku solver is a college level weekend exercise
- ChicagoBoy11 4y agowhile I was learning lisp I did one as a way to learn the language a bit, and it was absolutely delightful. I feel like this sort of problem lent itself very well to the core features of the language I was trying to learn, so I highly recommend it as an exercise. Peter Norvig also has "his" solution to it in Python on the plane, and it's just remarkable how just looking at it I could tell that there was just a clarity of thinking to that man's code that was something I could only ever hope to emulate some day.
