Whether or not Musk has the perfect idea for peace is a fair question, but I'd say that influential people who are trying to suggest a semi-realistic basis for a peaceful dialogue and some kind of resolution to this conflict are being more productive than those who are virtue signaling about how much they hate Putin. Musk should have more credibility here than the blue checkmark brigade as he physically acted to help Ukraine early when they needed it.
- nh23423fefe 4y agoSeems incoherent. Why are you comparing elon musk to unnamed twitter users? I don't need to compare his ideas to other (undescribed) ideas. I can simply evaluate the idea and call it bad. I don't care about the relative preference between one bad idea, and one undescribed idea.
- tgv 4y agoIf physically acting creates credibility, any Wagner mercenary has tonnes more than Musk. And I think your dear twitterer has just tried to defend Putin's invasion with an electoral map from 2012. He does not act in good faith.
- superchroma 4y agoHe should, but then he voiced an ignorant and disrespectful opinion and instantly erased his credibility on the matter.
- beardyw 4y agoI think 'appeasement' is the word you are searching for. History has not looked kindly on it.
- logicalmonster 4y agoThis middle school level take always pops up. Anything other than militarism and endless escalation for the military industrial complex is falsely labelled as appeasement to continuously sell war. History didn't start in 1930s Germany. The causes and events of "WWII" are far more complex than "we appeased Hitler and WWII sucked so therefore anything other than instantly destroying the enemy is appeasement and that's bad". Musk might not understand the region perfectly and his proposal might be imperfect, but his general sentiment to try and find some form of common ground is smarter than beating the war drums as hard as possible until we see nuclear missiles filling the skies.
- tgv 4y agoYour man just tried to sell Taiwan to China. How much more deranged would you like to have it?
- verdverm 4y agoThere is very little common ground. If you have been following, you would know they have been trying to have talks but cannot find a basis for agreement. Let's not forget that the Russians poisoned attendees at an early peace summit.
- Zigurd 4y agoIt is appeasement. It is also faux sophistication. An actual sophisticated analysis would take into account the reasons Putin invaded: He was not challenged in an effective way previously. He has tried nuclear blackmail before. He has reasons to think useful idiots believe his stories about wonder-weapons. Etc. A sophisticated analysis would project what giving Putin his "winnings" would do subsequently: His stated goal is to renew influence over what had been the Soviet Bloc. That means Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and other free and democratic nations he feels entitled to control. Elon is at least as wrong as he looks to be. So are his fanbois. Everyone else knows Elon is burning his brand image at a furious pace.
