Sadly, it doesn't matter if it's legally a crime or not - if they don't like what you say or do, they can make up an excuse to legitimize their violence. Even if the court decides you hadn't done anything wrong, it's too late, you've been victimized. I say this as someone who spent a night in jail for crossing a street, when the friend next to me said something rude to the cop on the other side. We were lucky that they didn't beat us senseless.
