China has opened police stations in US and Canada to monitor Chinese citizens
- mmastrac 4y agoNobody has yet to identify one of these in real life in North America. There have been multiple stories, but even reporters who have visited the purported sites cannot find these stations. I don't doubt that China is up to some shenanigans around the world, but this particular dubious story is getting repeated over and over.
- vogt 4y agoTo add some context (not refute), the mainstream media stories (Yahoo, WaPo, NyPost, Free Beacon) I've read that talk about this all reference this same report: https://safeguarddefenders.com/en/blog/230000-policing-expands https://safeguarddefenders.com/en/blog/230000-policing-expan.... It's a lengthy topic I am curious about but have no background in. But for context my understanding is these claims come from a pan-Asian human rights watchdog NGO based out of Spain. I was curious and looked up whether there was an address or vague location RE: the claim that there is one such police station in NYC and didn't find one though I did skim through ~50% of the PDF by Safeguard.
