Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs) have immense promise not only due to their safety and ability to use cheaper fuel but also for their ability to consume waste from standard uranium fission reactors yielding far safer post-use byproducts. The only "downside" from MSRs is that you cannot use them to generate plutonium and weapons but for non-military use that's not a problem.
