The ratio of ads to real posts on Instagram is already terrible. If it gets any worse, I'll probably stop using Instagram due to frustration. I'm pretty fed up as is.
For grid posts (not sure what they're called, but the part that's not stories, where you scroll down), my feed is currently as follows:
1) Friend
2) Friend
3) Ad for a prescription medicine I'll never take. Totally
irrelevant.
4) Friend
5) Friend
6) Ad for a product I'm unlikely to buy (it's a personal grooming product)
7) Friend
8) Friend
9) Friend
10) Ad for a retail item I'll never buy (item costs $5k+)
11) Friend
12) Friend
13) Friend
14) Ad for a movie that I probably won't see, but this ad isn't totally off base
15) Friend
16) Friend
17) Friend
18) Ad that's not relevant to me (it's for a car)
19) Friend
20) Friend
I also usually see "suggested" posts that aren't relevant, but none showed up in the first 20 posts today.
So...5/20 = 1/4 of the posts on my feed are ads. If they bump this up to more like 1/3, I'll stop using Instagram.
- ketchupdebugger 4y agoI dont see how they can increase this any more. If they increase anymore it will literally be every other post is an ad. Unless its consecutive ad posts. Either way its bad for the end user.
- darkwizard42 4y agoYikes, consecutive ad posts are going to be terrible. Honestly nothing feels worse on Youtube than having TWO ads play. I agree that they are nearing the highest amount of ad load they can get. It is terrible on Stories as it is in the Newsfeed.
- StrictDabbler 4y agoSame ad timing, but my ads are 100% for fancy art products I might buy if they weren't four times the cost of a similar product and eighty times the price of a nice pencil.
- hotpotamus 4y agoI don't even notice what ads I'm getting really. I mostly get tons of suggested posts. For a long time it was obvious political rage engagement bait, and I don't have much reason to engage with that, especially what they were trying to feed me. Now I seem to get stuff tailored to pilots - like Airbus vs Boeing jokes, stuff about cockpit controls that mostly goes over my head, etc... I'm not a pilot, and I don't think I'd ever want to fly a plane, but it is a lot nicer as far as what shows up in the feed.
