Columbia had a requirement that you had to get a B or better in four courses. One of them was in Advanced Quantum Mechanics. One of them was in Physical Mechanics. One of them was in Electricity and Magnetism, and Nuclear Physics or something like that was the other one. And these were really tough courses. And so if you didn't get a B or better, you had to take it again. And you had to keep taking it until you got a B at least. Well, one of the semesters I got a C in the quantum mechanics class. So I took it again, and I got another C. So I took it again. Well, it turns out, I am told, that Charlie Townes also had to retake that course at least twice. So I at least had good company.”
