A low-yield display like this will test several things:
- Wind at altitude curls toward Moscow. Its possible Russian land and water will be more exposed than European. Note that rivers in eastern Ukraine flow into Russia. We’ll see a lasting levels of contamination in things like Russian grain and fertilizers containing sulfur.
- Russia will spin the fallout as if it amounts to the same concern as chemical weapons 100 years ago. They’ll claim remediations are so routine that NATO and Ukraine inadequately prepared their populations.
- If the wind is westbound, Romania will be the worst-affected NATO member because potassium iodide is not proactively distributed. NATO will debate if it considers this an attack.
- Another risk is the water supply to Crimea. An open channel running from central Ukraine supplies nearly all their fresh water.
