The fossil record in what is now northern US shows two local tsunamis triggered when two kinds of seismic wave that travel at different speeds arrived sometime apart, affecting what we would consider an inland sea stretching north from the Gulf through what we think of as the "midwest", or "flyover country". Same must have happened in many places. Any water wave arriving directly from near the impact site would necessarily arrive much later than the various seismic waves. It must have been smaller, there, because it did not wash over the leavings of the first pair.
