Try to have a good understanding of the listeners knowledge on the subject. If you're talking tech/dev and they're a dev as well, then use lingo. If they aren't, then make sure to say you don't know how much they know and they should interject if it's too basic. Then adjust the level until the listener gets your language and doesn't need to constantly get clarification. But honestly, I think you'll just need to accept that, sometimes, you will sound demeaning, and constantly adjust yourself to find the optimum for each person.
