Remembering Steve Jobs – 11 years passed
- once_inc 4y agoSteve Jobs remains such an interesting mix of focussed attention to detail, obscure decision making, and flamboyantly anti-social behaviour that I still struggle to make up my mind about whether he as a person was someone I think generally positive or negative about. In the end, I tend to think that his anti-social behaviour tips the scale to negative.. I also stuggle with other people that fit this personality type, like Elon Musk and in a way Bill Gates.

In the large, what he built/shaped/influenced (in tech, market, society, etc.) matters, not how he treated those he interacted with. That does matter, of course, but for them - and it's between him and them.

The best of him is represented in the graduation speech he gave at Stanford: https://news.stanford.edu/news/2005/june15/jobs-061505.html https://news.stanford.edu/news/2005/june15/jobs-061505.html There are also two documentaries about him worth seeing: Steve Jobs: One Last Thing (2011) "Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again." Steve Jobs: The Lost Interview (2012) “Expose yourself to the best things that humans have done, and then try to bring those things in to what you are doing.” — Steve Jobs
