Ancient architecture is so interesting. A lot of western education (USA, UK, Australia, etc) will cover whatever local ancient architecture is present, and then it’s nothing but Greek and Roman buildings. this may just be corroborated annecdata and I know people are working hard to change this, but students only have so much time in school to be exposed to all the worlds history, so it’s a shame that we end up overlooking something no matter what we do. It will be good when they are exposed to a wider breadth of cultures historical records.
Educational gripes aside, I love how much effort was put into the irrigation systems, and that they could actually produce ice in the desert by engineering the correct conditions using long distance water and clever architectural design to maximise passive cooling. There’s so many valuable lessons in “ancient” architecture for people trying to design more environmentally friendly buildings.
