Ask HN: Success with who is hiring threads?
What has your experience been? I've posted and got a few recruiters and some folks who didn't fit the criteria reach out. No real good leads but I only tried it one time. Curious what other folks' experience has been.
- pyb 4y agoA bit specialized, but I don't get much inbound interest as a software developer for hardware projects.
- lcnPylGDnU4H9OF 4y agoThere are some decently detailed responses to a similar question I saw earlier today: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33083784 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33083784
- shishy 4y agoI found my job of the last 2.5 years from that thread. It's hit or miss but sometimes a strong match happens!
- selfmodruntime 4y agoI posted my work history along with what I was looking for in the equivalent job seeking thread along with sending an e-mail to interesting opportunities in the who is hiring threads. I got a fair number of follow ups and interviews, but ultimately decided to go with a different direction. I still think that thread is excellent for Europeans like me to search for jobs abroad.
- devKnight 4y agoI've found work through the freelancer, and who wants to be hired posts
- muzani 4y agoI wouldn't say full success as I didn't actually get a job, but I got deep into interviews that could have led to very good jobs. The progress vs effort ratio is by far the best of any channel. The first month had no response, but after fixing my copy and posting soon after the thread opens, I got a lot of good responses. It's particularly good if you're not in a tech hotspot like Silicon Valley, but want to look for other jobs that might be regionally targeted.
- jwitthuhn 4y agoI don't have any experience from the hiring side, but I got my current job from applying to a position from the 'who's hiring' thread that sounded interesting. Just passed my 2 year anniversary there and I've been loving the work.

- djangpy 4y agoI got hired by one company advertising on who's hiring, been there for 6 months now. Very happy! They told me that the threads are gold mines for good candidates, because 99% of the people who apply on LinkedIn or through their websites are really bad.
- DMell 4y agoI found my current role in a jobs thread and couldn’t be happier. I was picky though and it took time.
- WWLink 4y agoI didn't get a job from those, but I did have a couple of really interesting conversations.
- jhoelzel 4y agoAs a Freelancer I have gotten regular messages and offers from the who is hiring thread for freelancers from people all over the world. You have to play around with it a little bit, just like you need to train interviewing for jobs. Someone out there is always looking for help, so make yourself easy to find.
