Ask HN: What do you choose to ignore every day?
- tempxyz 4y agoHate from other people.
- sebastianconcpt 4y agoCrazy, resentful, envy and deeply ungrateful people claims posing as just.
- WallyFunk 4y agoThe art of knowing, is knowing what to ignore. – Rumi ...also... Sturgeon’s Law: Ninety Percent of Everything Is Crap[0] [0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgeon's_Law https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgeon's_Law
- sn0w_crash 4y agoThe news. I genuinely don’t want to know what horrifying things are going on in the world.
- suprjami 4y agoI ignored the news for many years and only started paying attention with Covid. I then found myself needing to intentionally seek out positive/uplifting/good news or my mental state would suffer. Now that governments largely consider the pandemic "over", the news had once again become empty and devoid of anything interesting to me. Maybe it's time to give it up again.

- rochak 4y agoWhat other people think about me and my opinions. Fun fact: You’ll be surprised to know that there are incredibly few people who think about you as much you would like them to.
- whitepirate20 4y agoHow did you develop this mindset?
- gaws 4y agoYou have no control over how people think of you. Let that go.
- cetahfh14615 4y agoPeople who (implicitly) say "you better do X or care about Y or else bad things will happen!!111!" it's like: what's going to happen? Am I going to spontaneously combust if I just ignore you?
- tenpoundhammer 4y agoFeeling Inadequate
- JoeMayoBot 4y agoThe phone - it's the largest source of interruptions there are. I almost never answer it, unless I know who's calling.
- antihoney 4y agoThe textbooks I need to study for my entrance exams. I think I'll crack them open tomorrow.
- jethronethro 4y agoFanboyism, celebrity news (and celebrities in general), hatred and negativity.
- billybuckwheat 4y agoHere's a partial list (in no particular order): social media, people who criticize just for the sake of criticizing, people who tell me that my choices are wrong, other peoples' opinions of me, as much negativity (in all spheres) as possible, people who just don't seem to be able to enjoy something or let someone else enjoy that something even if they don't.
- muzani 4y agoMy rule of thumb is whether the person being negative can be convinced otherwise. If they can't, then don't spend any energy engaging them. There are some misunderstandings, and some who purposely misunderstand and it's important to tell the difference.
- devonnull 4y agoOnline comments and user reviews :-)
- menshiki 4y ago- Any type of internet drama (even if it involves people I follow/subscribe to) - What strangers think about me - Fashion trends - Ads - Phone calls
- solardev 4y agoThe looming certainty that our species is pretty fucked, lol, and there's not a thing anyone can do about it. But, hey, other species have come and gone, and we will too. It's not the end of the world. Just us. Funny thing is, I consider myself a generally happy person. I think once you accept the doom and gloom, it's almost kinda liberating. Like why worry about something that's unavoidable and out of your control anyway? Some amount of detachment from the future can be healthy... Also, microbes. We're teeming with them and their poop. Gazillions of little creatures living on and in us. You never have to feel lonely!
- ukoms 4y agoUrge to hit stupid people...
