- coffeeblack 4y agoNo superior format will be invented, because it would be illegal to use it anyway. This is how progress is destroyed. It’s not the first time.
- hu3 4y agoIf you read the law you'll see that your concern was taken into consideration and they planned for innovation. More info in this comment: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33080042 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33080042
- LeetHacks 4y agoNo, the law allows for technological innovation if the usb group proposes a new connector, or if the industry wants to move to another connector. It will require some lobbying though, but the big tech companies are well skilled in that.
- tommoor 4y agoSeems like a reasonable compromise
- pimterry 4y agoI'm not sure the mechanism, but it's certainly _intended_ to support future standards. Quoting from the press release (https://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/press-room/20220930IPR41928/long-awaited-common-charger-for-mobile-devices-will-be-a-reality-in-2024 https://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/press-room/20220930IP...): > This future-proof law allows for the development of innovative charging solutions in the future Also says they're already looking at how to support interoperability during a future migration to wireless charging too.
