Any sort of useful sex ed was out of the question when I was in public high school in the late 90s in not-urban Texas. We got plenty of horror stories around premarital sex, but absolutely no information about birth control or the meaning of consent. Shockingly, I have several classmates who were grandmothers before I became a mother.
