Ask HN: How much does Hacker News spend on Algolia?
I'm curious how much HN spends on Algolia for it's search.
- detaro 4y agoGiven how this was added shortly after Algolia was funded by YC, I wouldn't be surprised if the answer were "nothing".
- muzani 4y agoOften it's the opposite. Investors are usually happy to funnel a little extra from one budget to the portfolio company. After all, if an investor won't pay for it, who would?
- quickthrower2 4y agoBetter way to funnel the money is to get more equity though, presumably!
- muzani 4y agoNot always. It's a boost of early traction, and the higher this traction, the higher the valuation to the next investor. Also I believe YC already requests much less equity than they think they can get away with, or so everyone claims.
- quickthrower2 4y agoSounds slightly ponzish as a general idea. Although in the HN case it is genuinely useful to have algolia on the site.
