In between this, the big tech companies have leveraged this situation to put large segments of software developers on a treadmill, by using open source projects and excellent marketing, to impose a 'soft' form of standardisation on common practices (best demonstrated by React / Typescript). My tongue is in my cheek, but I often wonder.
