While I broadly agree (my view: copyright lifetimes should be more in line with patent lifetimes), most other people who create work - in particular those who create work to help them pay their bills - would disagree. Fortunately there's a solution for mavericks like me: Creative Commons licenses[1]. While they don't change the fundamentals of copyright, they do offer us the chance to practice what we preach[2]. None of this touches the doctrine of Fair Use, of course. I like Fair Use - as long as the person/organisation claiming it remembers to cite the original work ... something I doubt Mr Warhol bothered to do.
