Currently learning to write Thai.
For something really weird check out Burmese characters.
I just can’t begin to wrap my head around it. But was Same with Thai in the beginning.
Learning to read Thai was like being blind and then having the blindfold become less and less opaque each week.
One day it just looks like something really weird and then you start to read street signs, it’s a very strange experience to start learning a language with a totally different character set than English.

- omwow 4y agoI'm having the exact same experience, also with Thai funny enough, and the best way to describe it to me is like this: It feels like when I was a small kid learning to read for the first time. You see a bus driving by, and you now recognize a few letters, and then you mentally try to "compress" the letters into a word and suddenly: Woop! This bus is headed for Minburi! There's a little jolt of joy in that moment of recognition. Curious, why are you learning Thai?
- eric4smith 4y agoHaha that's how I felt the first time I was in the provinces and could find the Krung Thep bus. I'm living here.
