You should just know where programdata is where appdata is... Yeah, because the onboarding tutorial for new accounts explains all that. Not. Some of us do know this stuff, and we can sort of understand why Microsoft made the decisions they did (they make sense, or at least less nonsense, in large corporate environments of Word users). But they are still a nasty product of the "reach for abstraction" impulse of programmers with not enough experience to know that they're working outside their zone of mastery.
