The PHD authored book "No More Mr. Nice Guy" by Dr. Robert Glover actually goes into this topic. He's provided counseling to hundreds of men. He lies the blame at several societal factors but one that sticks with me is that 100+ years ago the predominant occupation was farming. In farming, men taught boys how to work and corporate with other men. Then the shift to manufacturing meant the men were gone all day away from the kids. It's now common for women to play a bigger role in raising boys. In addition, in the modern education system women outnumber men. So boys are now being raised and taught more by women then men compared to other parts of human history. Anyway it's a good book and written by a PHD with real world counseling experience, not some pick up artist or right wing activist. I recommend reading it if you struggle with your own masculinity in today's society.
