Soviet Union's Gerontocracy Is a Warning Sign for the US
- thatguy0900 4y agoI don't see congress setting age limits on themselves. It is kind of funny though seeing tech companies seeming to think 40 year Olds are washed up and unemployable while we have a 79 year old president.
- mensetmanusman 4y agoIt’s kind of inevitable as the median age continues upwards in the US. The older you are the more capital and political power you have accumulated.
- cafard 4y agoPoliticians become brands. Strom Thurmond was in bad shape during his last term in the Senate and possibly before that. I can only suppose that the South Carolina Republican Party was afraid of replacing him, either because it meant acknowledging that they had sent him to Washington when he was in bad shape, or because they didn't want the bad feelings around a contested primary. Meanwhile Chuck Grassley is apparently compos mentis, but running again this year, 42 years after he first won election.
