Launching a new Chromium-based WebView for Android
- russellbeattie 4y agoWe're doing this for security, stability and performance guys! Really! Microsoft, Mozilla and Samsung do it too!! See? Totally normal. Nothing to see here. We'll even repeat this at the end in bullet points to make sure it's super-duper clear that, you know, all the big companies do it and it's just a totally innocent change. Really! Any bets on how much invasive tracking is baked deep inside their custom WebView for when their users view websites within the app? It'll probably make TikTok seem like an EFF poster child. And does anyone really think FB is actually going to keep up with the latest patches in a few months? I'll be very surprised if we don't see news stories in the near future about how much data is collected without their users' knowledge.
