Hi man, have a little class here. 100k a year in SF or any major metropolitan center does not have the same purchasing power that it used to. If rent is 2,500 at least per month you do the math. They still have bills and children.
Yes, they are not coal miners but they are not rich by any stretch.
- uxp100 4y agoThey vary between the top 15% and top 5% incomes. Maybe not truly wealthy, but if you can’t call them rich, who can you cal rich? Exclusively people you will never meet? (Also I’ve been in this situation, years ago, making SV money having projects suddenly canceled. It fuckin destroys morale, and despite what everyone says in this thread, despite the high cost of living, an entry level or a step or two up engineer salary at google will mean you pay off your loans and start building cash reserve very very quickly, never mind the stock grants, so you can just quit. And should, rather than linger around in a restructured team where everyone is kinda pissed.)
