This is a risk of and why do you not pour your life into someone else's project. (without a commensurate return that you can own fully) He chose (knowingly or unknowingly) to be meat for a giant machine. Now he wonders why he got ground up and spit out. It's one thing to play a video game and end up grateful for having enjoyed and spent the time on a hobby, and walk away with good memories. It's another thing to end up begging/pleading to a soulless machine for their mercy and consideration.
