- DennisP 4y ago...yet. Electronic musicians generally haven't had tools that let them place instruments in 3D space, but give them the tools and they might well find uses for them. Maybe they won't use it for dance music specifically but electronic music isn't just for clubs.
- ugjka 4y agoThe premise of the article is that you can take any existing stereo music and convert it to 3D "magic" space using AI because it is not economically possible to do it manually, no body is going to re-mix millions of tracks for 3D. My point is that no "magic" AI is gonna work on electronic music because it simply is not natural sound you can target algorithmically and produce something that makes "sense"
- blackbear_ 4y agoWhat is so special about "not natural sound" that precludes algorithms to work on it?
- ugjka 4y agoThe producer would have to agree that the stereo to "magic AI" upmix is what he wanted? Get it? A human would have to agree that the upmix makes or does not make sense to him or her because ultimately it is his or her work, not AI's work. This is easier with chamber music or orchestra because it is just natural instruments at some defined position but electronic music is just a big mess positionally with no rules that AI can tackle sanely... The analogy here would be if we started converting 2d paintings to 3d scenes and then we would claim that it is what the artists imagined. It is not!
- stemlord 4y agoI agree with you that there wont (or shouldnt) be a one size fits all AI solution for millions of different pieces of music. The same reason why mastering audio is considered an art form as much as a science applies here-- it involves deep understanding of intent which goes far beyond simply analyzing waveforms Theres also a lesson to be learned about using sorts of style transfer to add dimensionality to past artwork which is that maybe the artist would have deliberately omitted these new dimensions even if they were made available at the time, so the new dimensiona effectively change the original intent, and shouls may be considered an entirely new artwork with somewhat different authorship and different message altogether
