A 60% keyboard is good for you
- radiojasper 4y agoNo. No. No. I need my numpad to be there on the side so I can type my 4 digit Windows password with it once a day :-)
- bonniemuffin 4y agoI use a split keyboard with a trackpad in the center between the two halves. It means my hands move even less than reaching over to use a mouse, and it doesn't matter how big my keyboard is, because I never have to reach out beyond the sides of it. It's so comfortable. More keys, who cares, bring them on!
- ilaif 4y agoThat's awesome! I tried a split keyboard for a short period and it felt special. How long did it take you to reach your previous typing speed when you first started?
- bonniemuffin 4y agoI haven't measured my typing speed pre/post, but I recall it being pretty easy to switch, and within a few days(?), my typing speed didn't feel like it was slowing me down. If you already touch-type 100% "correctly", all the keys are in the same places on each hand, so it's very easy--your hand is just in a new location, doing the same thing it's always done. I had a few keys where the "wrong" index finger was in the habit of reaching across the centerline to type it, so I had to get used to hitting those keys with the correct index finger, but that's about it. Once you get used to split, it's no problem to switch back and forth-- I use both my split keyboard and my built-in laptop keyboard without problems.
