What Makes Spiders So Terribly Scary to Human Beings?
- ohiovr 4y agoI think it has something to do with the sacred sequence: 1: Unity 2: Symmetry 3: power 4: energy 5: hand 6: incomplete 7: complete 8: mystery < 8 legs, 8 eyes 9: divinity 10: trouble 11: difficulty 12: brotherhood Or something like that. Besides Unity, symmetry, and energy, mystery doesn't seem to have other coefficients. A weird reply for a weird animal.
- incomingpain 4y agoAs an ape, we fear the things which typically eat/kills us. This forms our mythology. Dogs, Cats, Crocs, Birds, Spiders, Snakes, Sharks, Spiders. Then you combine those for our mythology. Basilisk: Bird + Snake Dragons: Crocs + Bird + Dog Griffins: Bird + Cat
- bell-cot 4y agoMy understanding: Spiders with venom which might directly kill you are very rare. But spiders with venom that's weaker, but still nasty enough to kill body tissue in a little area around the bite are (relatively) far more common. And if you do not have access to modern-ish medical treatment, and some nasty bacteria move into the dead tissue and spread from there - yeah, you could pretty easily end up maimed or dead. Just slower and more painfully.
