I stopped joining interviews/working with companies for similar reasons. I do freelance. I suggest you to do the same, until the time when the market gives us an ethical and a fair working space. Unfortunately spamming/impersonating people became a normal thing and people don't even feel ashamed for it. They do it like its their normal job. (Especially Indians, sorryaboutthat but I won't be politically correct for this case. Work on fixing that in your community if you feel offended.) Also the story sounds like he/she's somebody around your close circle. Maybe you can stop what you're doing and spend some time to filter some people out.
