May I suggest you to delete your Firefox profile folder (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox) and give it another try? They have corrected tons of problems, really.
IE10 is pretty solid, but you're right, we'll have to develop and design for older versions for a long time.
