I can't help but think about how this'll end up helping AMD in the long run.
If enough people wait until October 20th before deciding what to get, then demand for AMD will be a little lower, so any shortages won't be as bad or there won't be shortages.
For the holiday season, AMD will have already primed their supply channels, whereas Intel will just be starting. While 13th gen Intel can be used in 12th gen motherboards and therefore people can buy motherboards earlier in preparation, people who really care about performance are going to want the newer Z790 motherboards, even if the differences are minimal. And I don't think anyone who cares about performance is going to spend all that money to upgrade a current 12th gen system to 13th gen, so availability of Z790 motherboards will be an issue.
Whatever happens, it'll be good for consumers. An Intel release usually means less expensive AMD hardware.
- jeffbee 4y agoThis is some serious motivated reasoning. AMD got murdered Q4 last year (on the client side, while dominating datacenter sales) because Intel 12th gen were good, cheap, and abundant, while AMD Zen 3 were scarce, expensive, and slower. If Intel gen 13 are any good at these price points AMD is in a tough fight regardless of their supply situation.
