I despise VK and Russian government, yet, Apple's gatekeeping for apps installation is despicable.
A lot of people even here on HN always say, 'it is what you signed for, you should have done the research before buying Apple device, you can always buy Android' - but no amount of research could predict a war when buying an iOS device in September 2021, and now the user who wants an app that worked perfectly when he bought the device can't have it.
When will these Apple acolytes come to their senses? When apple will block the app they need, no sooner?
I hope the EU will crush this monopoly sooner than later. It is dangerous to everyone (especially considering that Apple eagerly remove apps at requests of different dictators. Yes, even Putin's government requests were keenly satisfied before 24feb).

- frankjr 4y agoHow do you know it was removed/blocked by Apple? The message says the developer removed the app.
- Andrew_nenakhov 4y agoBecause VK group would never willingly remove all their apps from the AppStore.
- JumpCrisscross 4y ago> VK group would never willingly remove all their apps from the AppStore There are more pieces on the board than Apple and VK.
- saurik 4y agohttps://vk.company/ru/press/releases/11274/ https://vk.company/ru/press/releases/11274/ > VK confirms that Apple has blocked several of the company's apps, which are currently unavailable in the App Store. The company has sent a request for clarification to Apple. VK services installed on users' smartphones continue to operate as usual.

It's quite disingenuous from Apple to say "the developer removed the app" when in fact it was done by Apple itself. Maybe they're just lazy to distinguish the cases in the UI...
- testfrequency 4y agoI think a lot of people forget Apple pulled vaping/tobacco apps from their App Store.. I smoke cannabis (legal state), purchased a $500 flower vaporizer with connectivity, but now I can no longer fully enjoy the device since Apple decided they know more about my habits than I do. It’s completely unfair and wrong of Apple to gatekeeper their App Store for completely legal activities
