UK broadcasters battle monarchy over control of Queen’s memorial footage

- ContrarianBrit 4y agoSounds like a curious demand from the monarchy!
- shapefrog 4y agoSurely they want to just clear a super edit and ensure that they use the camera angle from the Kings good side. If on the other hand they want the networks to torch the 10's of thousands of (or more likely 100k+) hours of footage then that is indeed curious, curious to the point where someone needs to sit down and watch it all to find out why!
- denton-scratch 4y agoSomebody inflicted all of that coverage on us; somebody ensured that it was all-day, and all the same on every channel. Seriously, if you weren't here, there were back-to-back two-hour TV "news" specials on every major channel. I say "news" in quotes, because if you wanted to know what had happened on some day, then you were SOL; there might be a 5-minute segment of actual news somewhere in there, if you were prepared to watch all the rest of the grovelling. It's high time the media here showed respect for the 20% of UK citizens that are republicans. Do we get 20% of royal coverage expressing a republican sentiment? Do we hell. Did you know that 20% of the UK are in favour of abolishing the monarchy? Of course not, because the fawning media never mention it.
- nly 4y agoJust because 20% or the population are in favour of abolishing the monarchy it doesn't mean they care enough to actually do it. Royalists are vocal supports, most republicans are "meh, bloody royals, what's the point of 'em?"
- atonse 4y agoGood luck getting anyone from any other country to erase it. (Media orgs). Can’t imagine why most would be able to watch more than a couple hours of it.
