More Bosses Are Spying on Quiet Quitters. It Could Backfire
- RadixDLT 4y agohaha
- RichardCNormos 4y agoIf you've got to spy on your employees, you've got weak line management. A good line manager knows when one of their direct reports is checked out. That said, as a line manager, I see no problem with an employee doing exactly what's in their job description, if they are not interested in advancing.
- nh23423fefe 4y agoYeah, leads will have meetings about "getting to the next level" and offer vague advice like, "I need to see more" which is just gut feeling garbage. I work, I collect pay, I leave. If I want a promo, I would just leave and get +20% and a new title and get to be useless for 6 months at a new job. Why would I do more for nothing now and maybe something vague in the future?
- nikau 4y ago> Why would I do more for nothing now and maybe something vague in the future? Its funny how stockbrokers and sales people can have very clear upfront compensation structures - yet other business areas are supposed to go above and beyond and gamble they might get a promotion or bonus at year end.
- rolph 4y agoi agree with that, but i also have no problem with advancing an employee, that is capable of doing exactly whats in thier job description, and not being distracted by workplace interstitials.
- nh23423fefe 4y agoI don't care if my leads try to surveil me (or if they do right now), they couldn't act on it anyway. We can't even monitor our services and applications properly, how could they possibly interpret the noisy signals I'm generating.
- quantified 4y agoPoorly. Doesn't mean they won't try, they're human.
- RadixDLT 4y agothis is nothing new, I was spied on in 2009
- public_defender 4y agohttps://archive.ph/okDhk https://archive.ph/okDhk The point of this article is that more bosses are spying on all workers. The quiet quitter thing is sort of a red herring. It doesn't really figure into the story in a meaningful way.
- trasz 4y agoFixing “quiet quitting” is easy - just fire the bosses and hire someone competent instead.
