I think the article's introduction is unhelpful. If it made it clearer early on who the intended audience is, it would do better. (I think the intended audience is something like "people who want to read about things they already sort-of-know, set out as a nice story to help everything fit into place". The apparent audience of "people who are comfortable reading C but don't know that C strings are null-terminated" is presumably a rather small one.)
