1 in 4 subscribers are planning to leave Netflix this year
- fasthands9 4y agoPutting aside the specific strength of Netflix - the wording on this poll is incredibly silly. You can cancel Netflix at any time so what is the follow-through rate on someone who "plans" to cancel? What about the cancel rate for Hulu or HBO What percent of people historically have cancelled Netflix once in a given year? I know its a silly consumer poll so not a huge deal, but I see this type of question a lot in political polling about "Are you planning on leaving your job" or "Are you financially stressed" which seem to try to code a nebulous subjective answer to an objective one.
- joegahona 4y agoYeah I agree, this is dumb. Also asking users what they'll do in the future is pretty well established to be a terrible survey question. Humans are terrible at remembering the past and much worse about predicting the future. Also: Maybe someone who knows statistics better than I do (not at all) can explain this: > We surveyed 1,000 Americans to gauge their streaming habits in 2022 and found that 1 in 4 are planning to leave Netflix this year. Can you simply extrapolate the results of a poll from 1,000 to millions and expect the same numbers to hold true?
