Well, information is valuable. I think that Google has been "adding water to the vodka bottle" for quite some time, and the ultimate goal is to generate revenue for finding and providing useful, focused or curated information. Ad revenue is one the wane, and the search function is going to have to generate revenue somehow. That's my humble opinion.

- cratermoon 4y ago> the ultimate goal is to generate revenue for finding and providing useful, focused or curated information The ultimate goal for who? If, as you say, Google has been watering down search results for their own ends, how does that square with providing useful information?
- jschveibinz 4y agoI apologize for my lack of clarity. I was implying that since Google owns 90% of the search market, that they have the ability to steer people toward paid search without market pressure. To steer people in that direction, one approach is to water-down search results to create frustration in the consumer, and then offer to provide paid, higher quality search results as a solution to that frustration.
- cratermoon 4y agoAh, I understand clearly. For higher quality search results, can Google offer a specialized, undiluted, version of their search technology, or would they need humans to curate and refine the results, like librarians or research assistants?
